I have a 1982 honda prelude and i was replacing the clutch....?

I was replaceing the clutch and i saw that it had no pilot bearing. Is it possible that a cluch could opperate without one and this car did not come with one? Please help I need to know if I should intall my cluch without one. I bought a pilot bearing for it but it doesnt fit anywhere and I didnt find it on the old one
